INTRODUCTION

The novel coronavirus, officially named as the COVID-19 pandemic by the WHO, has spread to more than 180 countries. Since December 2019, COVID-19 has killed hundreds of thousands of people and created severe economic depressions around the world.  Many countries, including Bangladesh, were fully or partially locked down to stop the spread of the virus. Because of these lockdowns, many people, especially those who were working in informal sectors as daily wage earners, could not earn to fulfil their day-to-day basic needs. Moreover, some were fired from their regular jobs. Many of these people have no savings nor extra money to rely on for an emergency situation. As such, they are suffering from an acute food crisis and are struggling to survive.

During this especially difficult time, the PRAN O PRAKRITI FOUNDATION has also decided to arrange relief and assistance by helping to provide food support to impacted communities in Bangladesh.

COVID-19 Relief Program by PRAN O PRAKRITI FOUNDATION

The PRAN O PRAKRITI FOUNDATION has already started working to alleviate some of these people’s suffering. Initially the foundation had started supporting poor families in a remote village of Jessore (Basundia). The foundation already distributed some basic food items among 450 families in different wards of Basundia village. Currently it is planned for this support to continue for three months, with extensions when necessary.

The Foundation also supported some targeted groups of constructions workers and cleaners across Dhaka City and a Female Orphanage in Jessore.

Ms. Arshia Butul, Vice Chairman of The Foundation & Founder
“During this crisis we are not only relying on individuals and groups in Bangladesh, but also mobilizing resources from around the world. We encourage all those who wish to help people during this crisis to come forward and join us”
